Rye River Brewing Company, which is based in North Kildare, has announced today (April 30) that it has secured renewable electricity from a wind farm located in County Kerry.
The business, which is situated in Celbridge and employs a total of 67 people, has signed a one-year Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (CPPA) with energy transition company Pinergy.
According to the company, this agreement will enable the brewery to power its entire operation using renewable energy sourced from Beale Hill wind farm in Listowel, County Kerry.
Rye River further explained that the initiative is "among the first of such contracts to be put in place for an indigenous Irish owned craft brewery committed to sustainable energy and environmental practices".
Tom Cronin, founder and CEO of Rye River, said that the company is "very proud" of the partnership.
He elaborated: "By partnering with Pinergy, every kilowatt of energy coming in to Rye River Brewing Company comes from Beale Hill wind farm in Kerry, generating green and renewable energy.
"Sustainable energy creates very little to no carbon emissions and offsets our need for fossil fuels."
He added: "The transition to a sustainable energy system is crucial for mitigating climate change and creating a more sustainable future."
In addition, Alan Clarke, Pinergy's energy consultant, said that the agreement between the two groups "demonstrates their unwavering commitment to sustainability and reducing their environmental impact."
Mr Clarke further said: "This move sets a fantastic example and standard for the craft brewing industry and we hope to see more breweries follow their lead."
