Sisters, Susan and Judy Boyle are this week celebrating the success of their Brigid, Bees and Brewing night which highlighted a little known fact about the famous saint.
Brigid, Susan Boyle explains, is the patron saint of brewers, was even known to pray for a lake of beer, and that every drink would be a prayer!
“They don’t teach you those kinds of things in school!” she joked.
The sisters hosted the event in the Next Door off-licence attached to their family pub, Boyles, on the Square in Kildare town, last Tuesday.
Their father, Jarlath, is a well known local bee-keeper, all of which prompted this unique celebration of St. Brigid to coincide with the St. Brigid of Kildare Gathering Festival.
The event featured tastings of elderfloor mead, honey medallions and beer from local Kildare craft brewers Trouble Brewing.
There was also a lively discussion on all things cooking, baking and beer.
