A pop and soul singer from North Kildare has released an upbeat new single inspired by Saint Brigid.

Cherley Kane's latest track single, 'Ready for a Rebirth', is now available to stream on Spotify, and will be included on her upcoming album 'Goddess', which is due for release in early 2025.

Commenting on the inspiration behind her new song, the Coolearagh singer told the Leinster Leader: "I was at a songwriting retreat in London last October and our theme for the day was, 'same title, different song'... The title that day was 'January Gone'.

"My fellow writers — Carol Whitworth, Pankaj Dave and I — didn’t resonate with 'January Gone' so we asked what does January being gone mean to us, and I said: 'When January is gone, it’s St Brigid’s Day.'

"They being from the UK, had never heard of St Brigid, so we explored her as an Irish Goddess of fire, creativity and rebirth. She was the spark for the whole song."

She added: "We explored the idea that we can be reborn as many times as we want in our lives, through valuing ourselves and receiving support and encouragement from those who love us, when we need it.

"I’ve always felt an affinity with St Brigid, being a Kildare native, it’s woven into our DNA."

As for the driving force behind the song's bright and bouncy sound, Cherley said: "I am a huge lover of Motown, and I wanted to integrate some of that sonic palette into the music.

"My co-writer and producer Pankaj is a huge soul and funk fan and is a superb guitarist. He’s playing on the single.

"Goddess Brigid inspired a modern Motown song from a Kildare native... I’d like to think that would make her smile!"

When asked if she has any plans for organising concerts soon, Cherley had this to say: "No live performances are being planned yet... I’m bringing a band together to perform a set of my songs live though, so soon!

She also had this to say to the Leader's readers: "If you need the shake off something within yourself Ready For A Rebirth can get you moving in the right direction! I’d love it if you could give it a spin."

'Ready for a Rebirth' can be listened to below.
