Marty Whelan, alongside the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, took centre stage at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre this Wednesday night, for a night of music and entertainment with Marty In The Evening.

To audience surprise, Marty channeled his inner Phil Collins as he took the drumsticks and, with the orchestra in tow, took on one of music's most iconic drum solos.

Marty played the classic tune of the 1981 hit, In The Air Tonight, while wearing a pair of casual blue jeans and a t-shirt that read Marty Whelan in an Iron Maiden style of lettering.

Fans took to social media after the show and wrote: "More reasons to love Marty! That was brilliant!" While another said: "Some man for one man Marty!"

The show, which had been sold out since June 6, took place at 8pm and saw entertainment from classical and popular music to film, musicals, jazz and more.

Marty was also joined by musicians Dana Masters, Ava Dodd and Timothy Howar throughout the evening.
