MEMORY LANE: The National Ploughing Championships were very different in the good old days

In non Covid-19 years, the National Ploughing Championships is the biggest outdoor event in Europe attracting hundreds of thousands of people across the three days. 

However it was very different in the good old days. These pictures from the National Ploughing Championships from 1943 show just how serious and different the championships were almost 80 years ago. 

Not a tractor or a trade stand in site, but you can be sure the level of competition was just as intense.
