Training on tractor safety in West Wicklow school

The organisers also thanked St Kevin’s Community College
Young farmers from across the Kildare / West Wicklow area have completed a two-day certified Tractor Safety Awareness Training Programme at St Kevin’s Community College in Dunlavin.
The programme, which concluded on September 8, provided participants with practical knowledge and essential safety skills aimed at making work with tractors and agricultural machinery safer.
The training was funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and delivered through a partnership between the Wicklow Local Community Safety Partnership and FRS Training.
Organisers said the programme was designed to build awareness among young farmers and promote safer working practices that can have a lasting impact both on and off the farm.
Practical elements of the training were supported by the Hillbilly Tractor Run Committee. Particular thanks were extended to Mark, Willie and Sharon from Dayne’s Agri Services for providing a tractor and trailer, which allowed participants to gain hands-on experience during the course.
The organisers also thanked St Kevin’s Community College for hosting the programme and the participating students for their enthusiasm and engagement throughout the two days.
The initiative forms part of wider efforts to promote a stronger culture of farm safety and ensure young people entering the agricultural sector have the knowledge and confidence to work safely around tractors and machinery.
The Wicklow Local Community Safety Partnership said collaboration between local organisations, training providers, the agricultural community and public bodies can help support safer farming practices.
The organisers described the successful completion of the course as an important step in equipping the next generation of farmers with practical safety awareness.
