Emotions were high as Angela Feeney and Peter Melrose were elected as councillors for the Maynooth Local Electoral Area just before midnight in Punchestown.
Feeney (Labour) and Melrose (Social Democrats) both achieved over 1,600 votes to secure two of the five available seats for Maynooth LEA.
The Social Democrats have performed particularly well across the Kildare elections today, securing a councillor in four of the four local elections across the county so far.
