Celbridge candidate Lumi Panaite Fahey has secured a councillor seat after entering politics only weeks ago.

The Fine Gael candidate is originally from Romania but has called Ireland home for over 20 years, and ran a short but successful campaign to secure the vote in the third count.

Fahey received 1,383 votes by the third count, joining Fianna Fáil's David Trost and Social Democrats' Claire O'Rourke.

A single mother, who has a son with a disibility, had previously said she was running for Kildare County Council because she wanted to make changes that will help families like hers.
