A new era is beginning for the well-known Le Cheile athletic club in Leixlip.

This weekend, the club’s committee will be moving its prefab room from its current site at Leixlip Amenities Centre to another location close to its new track, built at a cost of just over €600,000.

The club, which includes as members well -nown athlete, David McCarthy, and adventure sportsman, John O’Regan, has just over 260 members.

Speaking at the new track, David’s father, Richard, a founding member of the club and its Development Co-Ordinator, said there has been a lot of work in getting the all weather track in place.

Pointing to the current prefab last Tuesday night, Richard said: “This has to be gone on Monday.”

Another founding member, Lisa Dixon, mother, of All Ireland javelin gold medalist, Erica, said they hoped to have big name athletes available for an official opening.
