Athy vs Milltown is the round’s most important fixture when it comes to the drop with the side’s throwing in at 8pm in Etex Geraldine Park

Who can still be relegated from Hanlon Concrete Kildare Senior Football League Division 1 ahead of tonight's final round of games? Well, on paper, the team in the most trouble is actually county champions Athy who sit in the drop zone on six points, two above already relegated Sallins.

Athy face Milltown in the final round, who sit in ninth a solitary point away on seven; knowing a win or draw in their 8pm visit to Etex Geraldine Park would be enough to keep them in Division 1 for another year.

Milltown can lose and survive if Clane fail to get a result at home to St Laurence’s. Milltown sit above Clane as things stands, also on seven points, and currently have a points differential of -29 while Clane hold a -43 difference, the relegation-threatened pair drew 1-15 to 2-12 in Round 5 on Saturday, April 18.

For Athy, the aim is simple. Win and you survive, but a defeat does not necessarily sink either final round opponent to the second-tier. A huge boost for the county champions could be the return of their Kildare senior panel members for this crunch clash.

Clane face St Laurence’s at 8pm in Conneff Park knowing if they can avoid defeat in their final game, they would be safe because both Athy and Milltown cannot reach eight points.

A Milltown win over Athy is enough to ensure Clane’s safety regardless of their own result but if Clane were to lose and Athy and Milltown were to draw, Clane would be relegated holding an inferior scoring difference.
