The Camán Chill Dara Club Awards were launched in 2021 to recognize the great work being done by the hurling clubs in Kildare.
The awards scheme is very much linked with the Kildare Hurling Action plan which was established in 2018 to focus on the development of each hurling club in Kildare.
Through continuing engagement with the Action Plan, and with clubs striving towards meeting the criteria set out in the awards scheme, clubs will continue to develop and grow hurling in Kildare.
The Camán Chill Dara Club Awards themselves are based upon clubs meeting certain criteria under 7 separate categories.
1. Structural;
2. Participation Numbers Increase;
3. Governance;
4. Coaching & Games;
5. Schools;
6. Coach/ Officer Education.
7. Profile.
Depending on how much the criteria is met under each of the categories the club will be awarded a bronze, silver or gold medal.
On Wednesday evening last at The Osprey Hotel in Naas, the 2022 awards were presented to the clubs by Pat Teehan Leinster Chairperson; John Burke Kildare hurling committee chairperson and Mick Gorman Kildare GAA chairperson.
In total 14 Golds, 5 Silver and 3 Bronze were awarded.
In comparison to the previous year there was an increase in the number of gold and silver awards with a reduction in the number of bronzes. This shows the clubs are progressing and it is hoped this trend will continue in the same way in 2023.
Pat Costello was the MC on the night, attended by 146 club representatives from all over Kildare.
David Herity Kildare Senior Hurling Manager contributed to the night via video and he congratulated the clubs on their success and offered the support of him, his management group and all the players to the clubs if ever it was needed.
A presentation on behalf of the Kildare senior hurling group was made to Colm Nolan to thank him for the past number of years for his work with the senior team as performance analyst and for his contribution to Kildare Hurling.
