Big Kildare contingent all set for CG national finals

The second 2013 National Community Games Festival takes place in Athlone on 16th - 18th Aug. The events taking place this time around include Athletics (Track and Field), Basketball, Gaelic Football, Hurling, Futsol, Soccer, Rounders, Skittles, Spikeball, Tennis, Variety and Culture Corner.

The second 2013 National Community Games Festival takes place in Athlone on 16th - 18th Aug. The events taking place this time around include Athletics (Track and Field), Basketball, Gaelic Football, Hurling, Futsol, Soccer, Rounders, Skittles, Spikeball, Tennis, Variety and Culture Corner.

The first event takes place at 2.30pm on Friday with the U14 Camogie Semi-Final between Banagher (Offaly) and Upper Creggan (Armagh). The first Kildare team in action is Newbridge St Brigid’s U13 Boys Futsol who take on Fanad (Donegal) at 9am on Saturday. The boys have had a fantastic year winning Gold at the May Festival in U13 Indoor Soccer and qualifying in Futsol defeating Killoe (Longford) 6-0 in the Leinster Final

St Brigid’s: Jamie Lyons, Oisin Sherlock, Daniel Madaghjian, Cian McHugh, David Higgins, Cian Butler, Jack Hannon, Ben Scanlon.

Later on at 11am Leixlip’s U13 Girls Basketball team of Ciara Bracken, Emma Browne, Laura Browne, Mollie Lawlor, Eimear Harrington, Ashley Njongue, Jan Muchemi, Fatimah Akorede, Caoimhe Masterson and Ellen Devine take on Donagh(Monaghan). The team had a tough match against Carlow side St Lazerians in the Leinster Final which should hold them in good stead for Saturdays semi-final.

Sallins will become the first Kildare side to compete in Hurling at the National Finals. They play Munster opposition in the “B” Hurling Final at 12noon on Saturday. The team qualified through the seeded competition defeating Kilmessan/Dunshaughlin (Meath) in the Leinster Final.Sallins: Eoin McConnan, James Dalton, Adam Kelly, Cormac Cullinane, Ryann Herbert, Diarmuid Mangan, Shane Callaghan, Jack Couch, Stephen Moran, Ciaran O’Gorman, Ryan O’Gorman, Simon Hughes, David Cronin, Shane Quinn, Sean Goings, Colm Dalton, Brian Wilsom, Stephen Kelly, Ciaran Mangan, Sean Cullinane.

Clane will play Erne Valley (Cavan) in the first Semi-Final of Mixed U10 Gaelic. Clane have been impressive thus far, not least when securing victory over a fancied Mount Temple (Westmeath) in Leinster and qualifying with a polished performance over Meath East. Clane will pull out all the stops to better the Silver won by the area in 2011.

Both St Conleth’s and St Brigid’s will thread the boards in U16 Variety. This hugely popular event will be staged at 6pm Saturday
