Odds shortening on Punchestown's Snowball winning big at Stable Staff awards

Martin Pearse

He is part of the Punchestown set-up now for over forty years. Affectionally known as everything from 'The Sheriff' to 'Snowball', although the crew in Punchestown always refer to him as 'Snowy' writes TOMMY CALLAGHAN.

Martin Pearse, pictured right, is as Naas as you can get, and very proud of it, and he will be seen every day of the Festival beavering around in his four-wheel jeep ensuring all is in readiness for the start of each and every race as he brings the official starter to the tapes.

And while punters will be seeking winners throughout the week, here, there and everywhere there is a whisper doing the rounds that one could do worse than hold off for another week or two as there is good word coming through on Mr. Pearse landing a big one.

Your see, 'The Sheriff', 'Snowball' 'Snowy' or for that matter, Martin, has been nominated for top honours in the upcoming Irish Godolphin Stud and Stable Staff Awards 2018.

Nominated by Shona Dreaper, PR and Communications Manager at Punchestown, in the category 'Support to the Racing Industry', Snowball has made it through to the final three having gone through a number of stern interviews, including TV.

The prestigious Awards Night will be held on Monday April 21 in the Knightsbridge Hotel Complex in Trim and the word is that Snowball has impressed the judges.

One way or another he will receive an award for making it to the final but there are a few cute punters out there who are thinking of going easy during the Festival before lumping on Snowball come April 21. One thing is for sure, there would be no more deserving winner.

The very best of luck!
