Leixlip Jack Quinn breaks through the tackle of Caragh Ronan Doorey to race up field during the Auld Shebeen Athy Intermediate Football Final
Caragh were crowned intermediate football champions of Kildare with a two point win over Leixlip at Manguard Park, Hawkfield, this afternoon.
On a day when a near gale force wind dominating proceedings it was Leixlip who had most possession in the opening half but it was Caragh who led at the break, with a somewhat fortuitious Darragh Swords goal in the seventh giving them the edge, it was the score that proved invaluable. Caragh led at the break 1-2 to 0-3.
The second half was somewhat similar, again Leixlip had the majority of the play but with scoring extremely difficult and the Caragh defence playing particularly well, it was still all to play deep in.
The sides were level on 53 minutes with Ronan Fitzsimons getting the vital point.
However Caragh came again a Darragh Swords free edged them back in front and then late on an incredible free from Josh Gannon from some 50m was the icing on the cake as Caragh were crowned intermedidate champions 1-5 to 0-6.
