Naas were impressive winners against Confey in today's opening game in Hawkfield in the SFC, winning on a final score line of 4-16 to 0-5; it was a game that saw the county champions hit one of the quickest goals of the championship with James Burke gaining possession from the throw-in, going through the middle, off-loading to Tom Browne who found net, all within 14 seconds. Naas led at the break 1-8 to 0-3 going on to win in the end by no less than 20 points.
Clane had too much for Kilcock, in a disappointing game but the boys in white were always in control, while in the final SC of the afternoon, it was Athy who proved too strong for a Clogherinkoe who were will in the game at the break with Niall Kelly putting on an exhibition in the opening half hitting five points from play. However the scores dried up on the resumption, Athy hitting a host of wides; Clogherinkoe denied a goal, twice by James Roycroft. Athy finall clinched by two points.
