Shock as big swarm of bees rescued from high risk spot in Kildare

South Kildare Beekeepers Association revealed details of the rescue
A large swarm of honey bees has been safely rescued and relocated by members of South Kildare Beekeepers Association after settling in an unusual location in Co Kildare.
The swarm had temporarily taken up residence inside an electricity meter box, prompting a call to the association from concerned members of the public. One of the group's experienced beekeepers responded quickly and successfully removed the bees before relocating them to a suitable hive.
South Kildare Beekeepers Association shared details of the rescue on social media, describing the operation as another successful swarm collection during the busy swarm season.
The association explained that while swarms can appear alarming because of the large number of bees involved, honey bees are generally calm at this stage as they search for a new place to establish a colony.
The rescued bees have now been rehomed and will continue their important role as pollinators, helping to support local flowers, crops and gardens throughout the county.
The group is reminding the public that if they encounter a swarm, they should keep a safe distance and avoid spraying the insects with water, insecticide or any other substance.
Instead, residents are encouraged to take a photograph or short video if possible and contact South Kildare Beekeepers with the location, address and Eircode.
Association members say every swarm rescue helps protect local honey bee populations and gives the insects an opportunity to thrive in a managed hive.
