Safe staffing plan needed for Kildare hospital – TD

Deputy Mark Wall was speaking in the Dáil today on issues with Naas General Hospital
Labour TD for Kildare South, Mark wall has raised ongoing safety concerns in Naas General Hospital with the Minister for Health, and urged the Minister to act now for patients and staff.
Speaking today (October 22) in the Dáil, Deputy Wall said: “There are very serious and ongoing concerns about patient safety in Naas General Hospital. During the week, I met with staff in Naas General Hospital who expressed their real worries for the winter months ahead.
“It’s clear that the hospital is too small for the growing population that it serves.
“Admissions are up 10% already this year in comparison with last year, ambulance admissions alone are up 13%.
“It’s not unusual to see over 100 people in the ED at any time. Yet Government has failed to come to the table with any solutions.
“Patient safety must be paramount, and staff continue to sound the alarm on this. Time and again, staff in Naas General Hospital say that the hospital is over capacity. We need a safe staffing plan for the hospital and the communities that it serves.”
