Reckless speeding the cause of increasing road accidents in Kildare

Existing technology should be brought to bear on speeding motorists, according to a Kildare politician.
Newbridge councillor Noel Heavey said there is a rise in the number of vehicles using the roads and a “perceived increase in accidents due to reckless speeding on our roads.”
He asked Kildare County Council to request the Joint Policing Committee, a forum with representatives of the KCC, the gardaí and councillors, to examine how technology can be used to tackle speeding.
But KCC official Marian Higgins said this is a matter for the gardaí. She also said the enforcement of speed limits is the responsibility of the gardaí.
