A beautiful family home and farm in Offaly is going under the hammer in October.

Matt Dunne, the Portarlington based auctioneer, has been instructed by the Connor Family to sell their farm in Kilcooney, Geashill, Co. Offaly.

Back in 1970 Fint & Kathleen Connor, originally from Mountrath, purchased the farm from Matt’s Father Mr. Peter Dunne Auctioneer.

The price paid was £6,000, a little over £100 an acre. At the time the farm comprised of 56 acres and the house was in poor condition. The Odlum family (the flour mills) were previous owners of the holding. In 1988 Matt Dunne acting on behalf of the Faulkiner Family, negotiated the sale of an adjoining 20 acre field to the Connors, and this in their own words 'made them up'.

Today the farm is in good hearth and comes with a modern farmyard ie. five span hay shed with double lean-to, part of which is slatted, silage slab, and a multiplicity of other sheds.

The house has been recently refurbished and comprises of front parlour, kitchen / dining room, utility room, 3 bedrooms, and bathroom, 1,750ft2 in total. Attractive pebble dash exterior, double glazed windows and oil fired and solid fuel central heating throughout.

The land is all in grass and is known locally as “good fattening land”. Its own well and mains water are used. Matt Dunne describes the farm as a “traditional holding that is great value for money. Where else could you buy a house, farm buildings and 76 acres with a reserve of €450,000 i.e. €6,000 per acre”.
