Kildare man's 208 previous convictions 'a cricket score' says judge

A man who appeared before Naas District Court had his 208 prior convictions described as “a cricket score” by the sitting judge.

Patrick Lynch, 47, whose address was given as 90 Ballygall Crescent, Finglas, Dublin 11 was prosecuted in relation who an alleged incident of trespass at a building at Blessington Road, Naas, on May 8. 2023.

The court heard that the allegation was that he entered the building, which was undergoing construction work.

The premises was described as a private residence. It was claimed that a camera was taken from the premises and left elsewhere.

The court heard that the defendant’s 208 previous convictions date back to 1997.

“It’s a cricket score. That would be a good score in cricket but not in a criminal justice context,” said Judge Desmond Zaidan.

The court heard that the defendant is serving time and is due for release next Christmas.

Judge Zaidan imposed a seven month custody term.
