The deputy mayor of Kildare, Councillor Robert Power, will officially open the skatepark at Moorefield Park, Newbridge, on Saturday, April 13 at 10am.

“A group of friends started a campaign nearly 20 years ago for a skate park for those who prefer alternative recreational activities,” said Kildare County Council in a statement.

“Thanks to their vision and the foresight of the community of Newbridge, Kildare County Council has been given the opportunity to turn their vision into a reality.

“The construction of the skateboard park, path and lighting upgrades were made possible by local councillors’ allocation of €130,000 of Local Property Tax (LPT) and €50,000 from development levies collected in the general area,” it added.

According to the council, county Kildare has the highest rate of people aged 0-24 in the state according to the 2016 census. This has given rise to an increased demand for child and youth services and facilities. The skateboard park in Newbridge was constructed under Kildare Play Policy 2018-2028.
