Kildare artist sculpts Alun Wyn Jones Guinness Player of Year prize

Jarlath Daly with Player of Championship trophy

Kildare sculptor, Jarlath Daly, had a special interest in the 2019 Guinness Six Nations Player of the Championship prize winner.

The Celbridge based artist and former President of MU Barnhall rugby club was naturally disappointed with Ireland not getting the Six Nations title but he also had other rugby related business on his mind in recent weeks.

He was busy preparing the trophy for the Player of the Championship, the now famous Welsh rugby captain, Alun Wyn Jones.

Wyn Jones had the honour of holding the Daly made trophy today.

Jarlath, who lives in Castletown, Celbridge, told the Leader this afternoon, that he only sent the trophy over to the UK yesterday, March 21.

The MU Barnhall clubman had only three weeks to prepare the hexagonal trophy after being approached by Guinness.

He has created trophies for many different sports from Munster rugby to the GAA and All Stars.
