The Aldi distribution centre near Naas
Aldi is moving to take articulated lorries off a busy Naas road and it’s also planning a big expansion on the town’s outskirts.
The supermarket giant, which has two stores in Naas, is seeking to build a road to connect the existing roundabout at the Newbridge end of the Naas ring road to an internal distributor road adjacent to its distribution facility.
It should mean that articulated lorries will no longer have to use that section of the congested Newbridge road at Jigginstown to go to and from the distribution centre there.
The company is also seeking planning permission for a building which will be 38 feet high and will occupy 46,500 square feet - more than three quarters the size of the indoor arena at Punchestown racecourse.
Aldi has also asked Kildare County Council for planning permission for 166 car park spaces and 36 bicycle spaces.
