An inaugural school project to raise funds for medical equipment for Crumlin Children’s Hospital will take place in Clane on March 23.
The Clongowes five kilometre Fun Run will be held at Clongowes Wood College, Clane, Co Kildare on Saturday, March 23, starting at 11.30am.
The run is part of Clongowes Transition Year Project called 'The Duck Push' which raises funds for medical equipment for Crumlin Children's Hospital.
The Duck Push project is in its 26th year and has raised over €2 million for medical equipment for sick children during that time.
All proceeds from the Clongowes Fun Run go towards the purchase of equipment for Our Lady's Children's Hospital Crumlin.
The Transition Year students at the school are looking forward to welcoming athletes of all levels as well as those out for a “brisk stroll” through the grounds.
Rory Morrin, Transition Year student at Clongowes Wood College said: “Crumlin Children’s Hospital is a really worthy cause and one that Clongowes students support every year. We are hoping that as many runners and walkers as possible join us, participate and help to make a difference!”.
The running surface includes tarmac, forest track and grass and will bring the athletes through the beautiful grounds of the 200 year old boarding school.
Runners and walkers on the day will follow a track through the grounds of the Clane school that are not normally open to public.
The route will take participants along playing pitches, cricket fields, across The Pale, into the historic 19th Century Pleasure Grounds as well as around the 18th Century Walled Garden.
The organisers are encouraging participants to register online now to avail of discounts at www.popupraces.ie.
A single entry for the Fun Run is €20 with discounts for children, families and teams of four. Registration is also open on the day and will cost €25 per single entry. Online registration closes on Wednesday, March 20 at 9.00pm.
Each of the first 300 athletes that register at www.popupraces.ie for the event will receive a printed t-shirt.
All athletes over 12 will be chipped to record their time, while all U12 participants will receive a Fun Run medal.
There will be prizes for the first, second and third placed female and male runners as well as for for the first, second and third placed teams of four.
