Man allegedly got up to speeds of 200kmph during Kildare garda pursuit

Naas Courthouse

A man who allegedly got up to speeds of 200kmph on a motorbike has been charged with three counts of dangerous driving.

Nerijus Kmitas (25) with an address listed as 4 The Glen, College Farm, Newbridge appeared before Naas District Court on November 1 2018.

Mr. Kmitas is charged with three counts of dangerous driving at Little Connell, Newbridge, Newhall, Naas and Millenium Ring Road, Osberstown on October 22, 2018.

The court heard that on October 22, at approximately 2pm, Mr. Kmitas was allegedly observed by gardaí overtaking a long line of vehicles on the other side of the road, in a 50km/h zone.

Evidence was given that his speed then accelerated and a chase pursued, and he got up to speeds of 200kmph, in a “built up area”, the court heard.

The motorbike was blocked in by a squad car.

“This is very serious as far as road traffic is concerned”, said Judge Desmond Zaidan.

The case will be heard on November 15 2018.
