A public park is needed for Clane and there is land available, Cllr Brendan Weld has told a public meeting.
At the October 5 meeting of Maynooth Municipal District meeting, Cllr Weld proposed that Kildare County Council “engage with interested stakeholders” in moving forward the provision of a public park in Clane.
Cllr Weld said provision for this has been made for in the recent Clane Local Area Plan.
But any move with other parties may not take place until next year.
Cllr Weld said there was land available.
“The people concerned are willing to work with the Council. Start to engage with the landowner about this. He is quite willing to fund a lot of this,” said Cllr Weld.

In a written response to the proposal, Simon Wallace, the Council’s Senior Executive Parks superintendent at its Community and Cultural Development Department, said:”The allocation of staff to commence engagement will be considered for the 2019 Parks Works Programme and will be dependent on projects already identified in the current years works programme being completed first.”
Speaking at the meeting, Mr Wallace said: “We will engage but in the context of the other projects in next year’s programme.”
Mr Wallace said there were projects in Prosperous and the Bawnogues in Kilcock on a list as long as your arm.
Cllr Weld replied: “We hope your arm is not too long.”
