Residents oppostition to massive housing plan in Maynooth

Residents in the Maynooth area have set up a group to oppose a major housing plan by Cairn PLC.

Residents on the town’s Dunboyne Road, Castlepark and Lyreen area will be wanting to ensure that what they consider the most negative aspects of Cairn’s 462-dwelling development proposal.

In particular they are concerned over what is termed “a wholly inappropriate transport infrastructure for the area.”

Cairn plans include 219 no. 3 bedroom houses, 100 no. 4 bedroom houses and 143 apartment. In additions it proposes 106 student units with 483 bed spaces.

The plans include provision of a new 800m link street with a vehicular/pedestrian bridge across the Lyreen River between Moyglare Road and Dunboyne Road vehicular.

Also in the plans is demolition of a vacant building adjacent to the ‘Divine Word Missionaries’ on the Moyglare Road;

The plan involved 979 car parking spaces and 706 bicycle spaces.E) Also include is around 7.7 hectares of open space (including playground areas), with a  new Lyreen Riverside Park of around 4.78 hectares along the Lyreen River/Crewhill Stream.

Residents are worried about the scale of the plan, including on height and traffic elements, which was lodged with Bord Pleanala on March 20.
