The collection rate for commercial rates in Kildare last year fell narrowly from 2016 to 81% in 2017.
The Kildare County Council Chief Executive’s report for March said that following the completion of the schedule of uncollected rates in January, it emerged the Council brought in €50.3 million in 2017, similar to 2016.
The overall collection rate for 2017 was 81%, less than 83% in 2016.
The report said the closing arrears balance or total amount owed and not written off was €12.1m at the end of 2017 and increased by €1.5m to €13.6m at the end of 2017.
The Council has increased its rates for bad debt provision from €1.77m in 2016 to €2.18m.
The Council issued rates demand for 2018 in February. A rates revaluation process took place in 2017.
