Naas Garda Station
Gardai arrested a man in his twenties early yesterday morning following a two mile pursuit, which also went the length of the town’s main street.
The incident began when a vehicle turned away from a checkpoint at Blessington Road late on Friday night.
According to gardai the car was then driven at speed along part of Blessington Road, on to Friary Road, into Poplar Square and on the North Main Street, shortly before midnight.
Two gardai vehicles, including an unmarked car, followed the vehicle up the main thoroughfare and out towards the Kilcullen Road.
Given the time of night, there were many people in Naas town centre. The enhanced noise of the car’s exhaust, along with the garda vehicle sirens, meant the car could be heard before it appeared on the street.
The incident came to an end at Naas West shortly after midnight on March 24 and there were no injuries.
According to the gardai, the vehicle was driven across the white line and on to the incorrect side of the road.
They are investigating an allegation of driving with excess alcohol, with no insurance and while disqualified.
The car was seized by the gardai.
