A helpline set up for people with asthma is not being used often enough by people with the condition who live in County Kildare.
The Asthma Society's adviceline number is 1800 445464.
Sarah O’Connor the new CEO of the Asthma Society said: “21,193 people in Kildare have asthma. We are concerned that people in Kildare are not availing of the free Adviceline service and we would love to receive more calls so that we can help people with asthma feel well, keep their asthma under control, and lead the fullest life, symptom-free.”
She added: "Our recent partnership review of the Adviceline service showed how impactful and positive the service is for people with asthma. The appointments are really tailored to the need of the caller – the specialist nurse works through what to do in the event of an asthma attack, follows up an appointment with a GP or specialist to answer any questions, deals with what triggers may be setting off a person’s asthma, and helps people to self-manage their condition This really equips people with the information and skills to improve their health and users have provided extensive feedback that that this has had a positive impact on their lives.”
