PROPERTY WATCH: Cottage near the Curragh snapped up for €110,000 over the asking price

Jordan Auctioneers in Newbridge successfully sold a detached cottage on 0.8 acres at Pollardstown, the Curragh by public auction on Wednesday last for €210,000.

The property had been guiding at €100,000. Such was the interest, the cottage achieved more than double the asking price.

Before an attendance of about 30 people, Liam Hargaden commenced the sale with an opening offer of the asking price €100,000 at which stage the bidding came very fast from several interested parties and rose quickly to €185,000.

After a quick deliberation outside the auction room, Mr. Hargaden returned and placed the property ‘on the market’.

Several more bids were received by the remaining four potential purchasers before the property was sold to a private individual.

The property at Pollardstown was situated approximately 200 metres from the world famous Curragh Plains and within close proximity of Newbridge (two miles) and Kildare Town (three miles).

The property comprised a single storey stone faced cottage extending to 498 sq.ft. incorporating a living room, kitchenette, two bedrooms, toilet and standing on c. 0.8 acre site.

Speaking after the Auction Liam Hargaden said the “the property was situated in a very good location which generated considerable interest and we are finding there are plenty of people looking for similar type properties which have potential in the general area.”
