Most of the remaining snow that fell during the recent spell of bad weather has been removed from Naas.

Contractors working for Kildare County Council  used agricultural machinery to load mounds of compacted snow into trailers, more commonly used for  transporting wheat and barley, and took it away late last night.

Only small quantities of snow now remain in the town.

Meanwhile Fianna Fail TD Frank O’Rourke has called on the Government to provide compensation to those worst affected by the severe weather conditions.

He also said Kildare County Council should be provided with extra funding “to assist with the repair and clean-up."

Dep. O’Rourke also said money should be provided for road repairs, water infrastructure repairs and to businesses and resident associations.
