Accountant who cashed client's cheques to own account jailed for two years by Kildare court

The case was heard at Athy District Court

An accountant who cashed cheques from a client’s account into his own was given a two year prison sentence at Athy District Court on Tuesday, February 27 last.

Ignatius Forde with an address as 54 Burrin St, Carlow, came to the attention of gardai on May 14, 2015 and September 19, 2015 for attempting to cash fraudulent cheques at Bank of Ireland, Emily Square, Athy.

The court heard that he was working as an accountant for the injured party at the time when he cashed the two cheques, one for €3,521.28 and the other for €2,411.01, into his own account.

He co-operated with gardai and admitted that the offence was an attempt to pay off his car loan which he was behind in paying.

However he wasn’t successful in this.

He is currently serving six and half years in prison and has over 100 previous convictions.

He is 66 years of age with four children. His sentence will run concurrently with his current sentence.
