Car robbed in Naas as it was "defrosting"

Naas Garda Station

Motorists are being strongly advised against leaving “defrosting” vehicles unattended.

The practice of switching on the engine to remove frost and ice led to the theft of an almost new Hyundai Tucson in Naas early yesterday morning.

The vehicle was parked on the roadway in the Kerdiff area  with the ignition on to clear frost and ice. The owner went inside and when he returned he saw it (registration 171-D-16544) being driven away at about 7:05.

“People tend to get the frost off their cars in this way but the advice is to stay with the vehicle. There are people driving around residential areas in Naas at times that this is likely to happen, knowing that it presents an opportunity to steal a car,”  a Naas-based garda spokesman told the Leader.
