Santa's in Naas but Celine Byrne can't be

Santa is in Naas Town Hall today

Santa has made an early arrival in Naas and Celine Byrne couldn’t show.

Confused ?

Well, it’s a month before Christmas but Santa has genuinely arrived early to meet the children of Naas.

Less than an hour ago he was ferried to his grotto in Naas Town Hall aboard a fire engine and escorted by a garda car, with a Civil Defence vehicle riding shotgun – just in case anybody tried to steal his sack loads of presents.

World famous soprano and Caragh woman Celine Byrne, a former student at St. Mary’s college in Naas, was due to perform at the switching on of the lights as she did a year ago, almost  to the day.

However at the eleventh hour she had to make an unexpected trip to Germany to perform in an opera being staged in Leipzig this weekend.

Santa’s grotto remains open until in or around 5pm today when the Naas Christmas lights – which will look better than last year – will be officially switched on.

Meanwhile numerous market stalls, selling seasonal gift items and goods are open at various locations around the town today.
