Naas GAA Club
A meeting has been called for tomorrow to save the Naas GAA children’s Christmas party.
The club has today reversed a decision - made yesterday - to cancel the event which brings many many hundreds of children and adults to the club.
Naas GAA has a significant juvenile membership, which generates revenue for the club, and is among the most active clubs participating in GAA games at underage level anywhere.
According to the club it was decided to call off the event because “we did not have enough volunteers to come on board to help with the event.”
The club says these are needed to “help prepare/transform the facilities, participate on the day and ensure that the event can be run in a safe and friendly environment.”
A club statement added: “While this decision has caused a lot of reaction amongst members it was a necessary call, at the time.
However, overnight we have received numerous calls offering support and assistance to run the Christmas Party.”
Club chairman Damien McGrath says he will host a meeting in the club on Sunday at 6pm and “would encourage anyone who is available and willing to help run the event to come along.”
He added: “Providing we get the appropriate level of support to allow us host and run an event of this size in a safe manner, the party will proceed. (I) appreciate any support you can offer at this time.”
