Two cottages sold at auction near Monasterevin

One of the cottages that was sold

The Monasterevin area is the home of two cottages, which were sold by public auction on Wednesday November 8 by Matt Dunne.

First up was the 24 the Lock House, a compact derelict cottage on half an acre overlooking the grand canal, just outside Monasterevin.

Bidding was competitive and Matt Dunne withdrew the property at €66,500, but after protracted negotiations the hammer eventually fell at €74,500.

The vendor was Waterways Ireland and the purchaser was a local family who are going to extend and refurbish.

Both parties were delighted with the outcome.

Lot 2 was a derelict cottage on 1.35 acres in Clonavoe, Clonbullogue, on the Kildare Offaly border.

Two people chased this property and the hammer fell at €45,000.

The vendor was Nicky O’Neill, who recently purchased the adjoining farm and this cottage was excess to his needs.

The purchaser was an adjoining neighbour.

Matt Dunne is delighted with the outcome and continues to impress in the auction room and he has six cash under bidders looking for similar cottages.
