Temporary traffic lights are planned for Kildangan Bridge as it awaits its €450,000 upgrade by KCC.
Members of the Athy Municipal District who met on Monday, October 17 last were informed that the council are looking into the temporary installation of traffic lights on the bridge to improve traffic flow.
Funding for the bridge, which urgently requires upgrade works, will come from Irish Rail and the National Roads Authority as well as the council.
Members heard that the council met with the NRA last Friday to discuss funding for the county. While Kildangan bridge was not mentioned at the meeting, members were assured that it will be featured on an application list of projects that require funding for the county.
Members also heard that the council urgently require more resources in Athy as personnel who leave are still not being replaced.
“The council is down to critical levels in terms of staff,” said Cllr Aoife Breslin.
“Good people are leaving the council and they are not being replaced.”
Members were assured that new staff will be temporarily recruited for the area.
