Athy Council Office
Kildare County Council has a 12-week average turnaround on all vacant houses in the county.
Members of this week’s Athy Municipal meeting were informed that the average time to fill a vacant house has dropped from 15 weeks down to 12 weeks.,
Members were informed that the turnaround time is better than most Local Authorities in the country. There are currently 3,000 vacant houses in the county.
Last year the council managed to fill 22 of these and to date for this year only eight have been filled.
Mayor of Kildare Cllr Ivan Keatley called the progress report on the issue a ‘work of fiction’.
“The vacant houses report is a work of fiction as far as I am concerned,” said Mayor Keatly. “Houses should be turned around in a week.”
