The appointments were decided at the MD’s annual meeting

The new Mayor (Cathaoirleach) and Deputy Mayor (leas Cathaoirleach) for the Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District (MD) meeting have been revealed.

It was decided at today’s MD meeting, which took place earlier today, that outgoing Fianna Fáil councillor Noel Heavey would be replaced by his party colleague, Cllr Suzanne Doyle, as the MD’s new Mayor.

Moreover, it was decided that Fianna Fáil Cllr Brian O’Loughlin would be the MD’s Deputy Mayor.

At the beginning of the MD’s annual meeting, Mayor Heavey gave a brief speech filled with gratitude, where he told those in attendance that it was a ‘privilege and a pleasure’ to serve the people of the MD.

Following this, his party colleague, Cllr Rob Power, nominated Cllr Doyle to the role of Mayor, and pointed out that she had served in the role before.

He also said that she is ‘very fair-minded’ and ‘makes brilliant contributions’ to the MD.

This nomination was seconded by Fine Gael Cllr Peggy O’Dwyer, and Independent Cllr Tom McDonnell also expressed support for Cllr Doyle.

As no other nominations were heard, Cllr Doyle was appointed as the new Mayor and thanked Cllr Noel Heavey for his service as the MD’s Mayor for the past year.

Cllr Power and Cllr McDonnell also complimented Cllr Heavey on his work as the Mayor of the MD.

It was then decided to appoint the MD’s new Deputy Mayor, which prompted Cllr O’Dwyer to nominate Cllr O’Loughlin.

This nomination was seconded by Cllr Heavey.

Once again, as no other nominations were heard, Cllr O’Loughlin was appointed to the role of the Deputy Mayor.

The MDs of County Kildare will go on a break for the month of August and will resume their meetings in September.
