The woman claimed at Naas District Court she was repeatedly boxed in the face

A man assaulted his partner when she was holding their baby in her arms, it was alleged at a Naas District Court sitting.

The woman appeared in court with discolouration and swelling to her right eye and lips.

She told Judge Desmond Zaidan she has been assaulted when holding the child in her arms.

The couple are not married and the woman claimed he had repeatedly boxed her in the face.

The woman said the incident occurred at 3am.

Solicitor David Powderly said the man had been charged and brought before the court.

The court also heard that the tenancy on the property is in her name.

The woman also said she had slapped the man.

Judge Zaidan granted her an interim protection order and adjourned the matter for a fuller hearing.

The man was not present or represented.

The judge said the order would be served on him by the gardaí.
