Eight months jail for stealing from Naas stores

A man who appeared before Naas District Court last Wednesday for taking goods without paying from three stores in the town received eight months in custody.

The court heard that Joseph Cahill, whose address was given as 18 Bawnlea Avenue, Tallaght, was before the court for stealing a stereo, watches and two bottles of champagne at Currys PC World, Argos and O’Brien’s off licence in the Monread Shopping Centre.

The offences took place on November 1, November 3 and December 2 last. The court heard that CCTV footage was obtained by the gardai from all locations.

The defendant who has 16 previous convictions for theft, was on drugs at the time and that this was the reason behind some of this crimes.

The court heard he is currently serving a sentence for handling stolen property. Solicitor Conal Boyce said the defendant is a tiler but he had started taking drugs aged 16. Judge Desmond Zaidan imposed the term for stealing at Currys, taking the other charges into account.
