The Balyna delegaton at the Foróige regional conference on February 3 at Hotel Keadeen
Seventeen young people from Milltown, Johnstownbridge, Suncroft Foróige Clubs and Celbridge Foróige Youth Café have begun their two month training course of Module One of the Foróige “Leadership for Life Programme”.
The young people aged from 15 to 18 are working towards an application to the week-long Leadership Conference held at NUI Maynooth this summer to complete their second module.
The Foróige Leadership for Life programme sets out to empower young people to make a positive difference to their community through practical actions and projects.
Throughout the course of the programme, young people learn the core concepts of leadership and gain skills such as communication, teamwork, problem solving, critical thinking, and self-awareness.
The programme sets about developing the leadership capabilities and potential of young people and gives them an opportunity to harness their skills and attributes to contribute to their society in a fun and encouraging environment.
The successful candidates will be presenting on a topic of their choice at the wonderful Celbridge Foróige Youth Café who are hosting the training.
The training is provided by volunteers and staff from Kildare and we are hoping to include a special guest to discuss leadership with the young people.
Module two will begin for those successful on their application to NUI Maynooth in August and if they should choose can continue their training in pursuit of a certificate from NUI Galway upon completion of the three modules available to them through their Foróige clubs.
