Sallins woman leading national campaign to recruit Girl Guides leaders

Julie Stephens from Sallins features in a new Irish Girl Guides recruitment video

A Sallins woman is leading a campaign to recruit new leaders to the Irish Girl Guides.

Julie Stephens, who is a senior quantity surveyor with Concast Precast Group, features in the organisation’s #becomeavolunteer campaign, which is launching today, March 8, on International Women’s Day.

There are currently 3,000 girls on the waiting list to join IGG, which currently has 1,800 volunteers from all walks of life, but is looking for many more.

Julie’s two daughters enjoy the fun and friendship of being members of IGG and Julie, who has been involved in the organisation since she was a child, also enjoys “the huge amount of friendship and just being around such fabulous women has been inspiring”.

Julie says volunteering has taken her out of her comfort zone, through events such as public speaking, but that she has found it challenging in a good way. “It is great fun and rewarding on every level,” she says. “I also want my girls and son to see how amazing volunteering can be.”

She says that guiding is “a safe and fun place to be and experience. I think the Guiding programme throughout the branches is a model to be so proud of.”

Those who want to volunteer can log on to www.irishgirlguides.ie, email info@irishgirlguides.ie or call 01 6683898.
