People using ATM machine in Kildare were approached by woman

There is increasing concern over the future of Naas Courthouse

A woman who was approaching people as they visited an ATM machine was prosecuted at Naas District Court.

Violeta Codan, 50, whose address was given as 15 Standhouse Road, Newbridge, was prosecuted for harassing the public at Edward Street, Newbridge, on September 6.

The court heard that the woman was approaching people rather than sitting down.

Defending solicitor David Powderly said the defendant is a married woman from Romania and she has four children.

Judge Desmond Zaidan said if he was approached by a stranger at an ATM machine  he would be uncomfortable because he might think he was being harassed.

He applied the Probation Act and told the woman he would not be so lenient if another incident occurred.
