Court allegation

A man was apprehended and held until the gardaí arrived after an alleged burglary, it was alleged at Naas District Court.

Dean Smith, 30, whose address was given as 3438 Lakeside Park, Newbridge, is being prosecuted for burglary at an address at Sexes Road, Newbridge, on December 16 last.

Sgt Mary Meade said it will be claimed that a house window was broken during the incident.

The court was also told that the defendant, who appeared via videolink from Cloverhill Prison, received facial injuries, including a cut and bruising, as a result of the incident.

The matter was adjourned by Judge Desmond Zaidan, who criticised the delay by the Office of Public Prosecutions in giving instructions about how the case would proceed.

Judge Zaidan said he could understand if there was a delay because the case file had  not been closed by the gardaí, but he said a lawyer could advise on how to proceed in five minutes.

The matter was adjourned.
