Judge extends condolences to bereaved man in court

Relative died in a road accident

A judge offered his condolences to a man who appeared before him on the death of his cousin.

Brendan Higginbotham, 24, whose address was given as Fr McVerry housing shelter, Kerdiffstown, Naas, was being  prosecuted for possession of cannabis at Naas garda station on February 6, 2022.

The defendant, who admitted the offence, appeared before the court by videolink.

He was serving a custody term in prison in connection with an unrelated case.

When Judge Desmond Zaidan asked if he was related to Keith Higginbotham, the defendant replied he is his cousin.

Keith Higginbotham of Copperbeech House, Blackditch, Nurney, died following a road accident near Kildare town on January 1.

The judge told the defendant, who has 24 previous convictions including four for drugs offences he would impose a three months term.He also said that this would not add to the term he is currently serving and it would not extend his time in custody.
