Over 5,7200 people turned out for this year’s Newbridge Parish Race Day, which was held in the Curragh on bank holiday Monday, May 6, last,.
“Attendance was up by 700 on the previous year,” said Evan Arkwright, commercial manager of the Curragh Racecourse.
“It was a great day and the weather really helped. We don’t have a figure on the amount raised yet for the parish but last year it was E15,000 and we are hoping to surpass that. We just have to get the final figures but we have raised over half a million over the past 28 years.”
There was something for everyone on the day including sporting events for the kids, theatre workshops run in conjunction with the Riverbank Arts Centre and an exhibition of old parish photographs from the Historical Society.
“It was fantastic to see the local community up enjoying a great days racing,” he added.
“The cheque will officially be handed over to Fr Joe McDermot later on in the year.”
