Naas CBS principal Noel Merrick is to retire having worked at the school for 40 years.
He has been head teacher at the 900 pupil school since 1992.
Mr. Merrick said he hopes to retire next February and this should allow sufficient time for the appointment of a successor and to make any consequential appointments.
“It has been a magnificent honour to have been principal of Meanscoil Iognaid Ris,” he said, praising the loyalty of colleagues, the goodwill of students and the support of parents.
He told parents in a letter that the school will continue to promote positive behaviour over coming years as well as focusing on new initiatives, including reform of the Junior Cycle.
“Work on these initiatives is progressing and perhaps it is a good time for new leadership to drive them all forward,” he added.
He said he would be happy to continue assisting the new principal and Board of Management in any way for as long as possible.
