Newbridge Gardai have issued a warning to locals not to give money to callers at the door after a bogus priest was caught collecting door-to-door.
“It had been going on since Tuesday, March 20,” said Sgt Seamus Rothwell. “He was calling house-to-house pretending to be a priest with a sponsorship card looking for lines.
“We’re passing out advice that unless you know the person at the door don’t give them any money. He could have made off with a lot of money as people are very generous. We caught up with him. He is not a priest and he wasn’t collecting for charity.”
A file will be prepared on the man who was posing as a priest and will be sent to the DPP.
